by Ceci Nakfoor, Sydney Schiller, Emma Yurko, and Samara Jivani

Scene 1: SUNDAY-syd’s house

INT.HONOR COUNCIL ROOM-2021, DAY

Three girls (MAIA: a nervous, shy looking girl playing with her hair, JO: a cool, relaxed girl whose clothes reveal her artistic style, LOU: annoyed expression, slumped in chair, tomboy) sitting in honor council in front of the dean of students, MR. MITCH NEWTON.

TIME PRESENT ACTION:

MR. NEWTON

Now which one of you started this mess?

LOU

 I don’t know what you’re talking about.

JO

 I didn’t do it.

MAIA

 Why am I even here?

ALL THE GIRLS

 It wasn't me.

“Oblivion” fades in

Screen goes black name of the film (credits), Shots someone (face not visible) dropping notes while each character is doing something: Lou arm wrestling someone, Maia sitting alone at lunch while studying, Jo painting. “Meet me at the beach tonight! Xo, McKenna.” After each note is dropped, shot of checking box on list for “smart one” (Maia), “artistic one” (Jo), “street smart” (Lou).

Scene 2: FRIDAY-ceci’s

EXT.BEACH-NIGHT

FLASHBACK: *Four weeks ago*

MCKENNA, a confident, almost arrogant girl wearing preppy clothes, her face isn't revealed until she meets the girls. driving, locks car, walking toward the beach

Oblivion fades out dialogue starts

MAIA

 She’s late

LOU

 Well what’d you expect?

MAIA

(nervous)

Why’d she even want to meet with us in the first place?

JO

I've literally never even talked to her.

McKenna enters (calm and collected) face is revealed.

MCKENNA

 Thanks for meeting me here.

LOU

(Holding note up)

What do you want?

MCKENNA

 Alright...well thanks for the warm

welcome I guess. I need you for a

job,of sorts.

LOU

I’m not cleaning your car--

JO

(Grabs Lou’s shoulder giving her a stern, parental look)

Let's hear her out.

MCKENNA

Thank you Jo…

(pauses for a minute to collect thoughts)

Ok so basically I had this idea over the weekend. I had to watch this video for health about a guy who had this whole SAT operation where he would release the answers to people for a cost, and I was thinking we could--

JO

 Ok where's this going?

MAIA

There is no way I’m screwing over my future just to help you with this ridiculous idea--

MCKENNA

The guy made 50 grand, just doing SATs. Just think of what the four of us could do. We could offer a little “extra help” to some students for some classes at school.

LOU

yeeeah, just like Lance Armstrong had a little extra help

JO

Are you comparing us to steroids?

MAIA

 It's cheating.

LOU

Screw it. I’m in. What? I need new cleats anyways, and there's an IMG scout camp this summer that is not cheap.

JO

I’m not sure, this is really risky.

MAIA

I agree, it’s senseless and stupid.

MCKENNA

Alright I guess just Lou and me will be splitting the 50 grand...

LOU

 I’m fine with that

JO

 Whatever, fine.

MCKENNA

 What does that mean?

JO

 I'm in.

MAIA

Are you serious? You really trust this girl?

LOU

(jokingly)

Relax, if it all goes to crap, Mckenna will just take the blame, right?

MAIA

I’m sorry but I will not be involved with this.

Maia exits

MCKENNA

(yells)

Just text me if you change your mind! Think about it!

(Turns to face Lou and Jo)

Well let’s get to work ladies...

2nd meeting, Mckenna enters confidently while everyone else is sluggish and still confused about the whole thing.

MCKENNA

Look alive ladies, we have our first client.

JO

 Woah already? Who is it?

LOU

(gets up, probably snacking on something)

Wait is it Chad, oh my god you were staring at him all throughout stats.

Jo and Lou laugh

MCKENNA

(blushes)

What?! No I wasn't, shut up guys...But yea it’s him.

JO

What does Chad want from us?

MCKENNA

He wants answers to Ms. Smith’s test on Friday.

JO

Well how exactly are we going to get those?

Maia walks in quietly, a reluctant look on her face

JO

 as if on cue.

MAIA

 shut up.

MAIA

 I wanna talk cash.

Mckenna pauses for a second

MCKENNA

I’ll give you 20% of the earnings.

MAIA

 (stops)

40

MCKENNA

 30

MAIA

(Hesitates)

Fine.

LOU

The hell? How did we get boxed out of this deal?

MCKENNA

Hey ya snooze ya lose.

Camera pans to Jo and Lou’s direction to capture annoyed reactions, returns to McKenna

MCKENNA

Ok so here’s the plan Ok so Maia, we need you to hack Ms. Smith’s computer to get the test.

MAIA

Alright fine that’s easy, she’s ancient so her password to her test site account can’t be hard to crack.

LOU:

Alright let’s just do it right now

(maia whips out her computer as everyone watches behind her, she types away furiously)

Maia: done (sound of paper printing)

VOICE OVER:

Lou distracting, shows Ms. Smith running out to help a student, Maia snags the keys

MCKENNA

Lou, you’ll be responsible for helping us distract Ms. Smith while we sneak in her room.

Maia on computer working

MCKENNA

Maia, you’re the most important player. I need you to figure out the passwords to the teacher’s computer to get the test..

JO

How are you gonna get the teacher’s password?

MAIA

I’ve been volunteering with the IT department since freshman year, I know more than you think.

Jo painting answers in water bottle

MCKENNA

And Jo can come up with some creative ways to camouflage the answers for them to take in with them

BACK TO:

INT.MCKENNA’S HOUSE-DAY

Back in the living room, mission complete, Maia slaps the test and water bottle down on the table in front of Chad. Girls standing with arms crossed behind Mckenna.

MCKENNA

Pay up.

JO

Holy crap...you guys this could actually work

MONTAGE:

Money rolling in, more and more clients (PAPER PLANES), girls throw around money in the bedroom. Cut to girls buying new things--Lou using her new cleats, Jo painting with her new art supplies, cut to Maia sitting with the girls at Lunch laughing. Cut to Mckenna counting the earnings but she still falls short.

Ends with Mckenna at home, we see her insecure side as she counts her earnings for college.

Scene 6: (FRIDAY)-ceci’s house

INT.MCKENNA’S HOUSE-NIGHT

Girls meet for another meeting after hype montage

MCKENNA

Alright ladies, we’ve been doing some pretty good work.

LOU

Pretty good? We’ve made $20,000 in four weeks, we’re doing pretty freaking good

 Girls cheer

MCKENNA

Ok ok settle down. Listen up, we have a big request.

JO

 Nothing we can’t handle!

Everyone cheers except for Mckenna, who’s serious.

MCKENNA

We’ve been asked to hack the school’s system to change someone’s grade.

Everyone shuts up, stunned

MAIA

 Oh shit.

MCKENNA

Yeah it’s this senior who wants us to change a grade on his transcript, I told him we’d think about it.

MAIA

Absolutely not. I’m out. The College Counseling computers are impossible to get into. And it would have to be during school hours because Dr. T has a laptop and takes it home after school. It would be nearly impossible.

JO

I can’t believe I'm saying this but I have to agree with Maia.

LOU

I’m with the girls on this one. It's too risky.

MCKENNA

 So you’re all bailing?

Everyone quiet

MCKENNA

Are you kidding me right now? No one is even considering? This guy’s offering a huge amount of money and no one even wants to try?

Silence

MCKENNA

I mean five weeks ago you were all nobodies sitting around doing nothing with your lives, wondering how you were going to pay for sports camp or art school.

MAIA

 Mckenn---

MCKENNA

(at Maia)

And you, you’re no one without me, no popularity, no boys, nothing without me. Just like in middle school, guess somethings don’t change.

JO

Enough! McKenna you’re not as big and powerful as you think you are

MCKENNA

I actually really need the money--

JO

Shut up! We all know you’re just a control freak.

LOU

Guys enough! Is everyone in or not?

Everyone nods except for Maia who stays back

Exit Lou and Jo

MAIA

Is everything ok, Mckenna?

MCKENNA

Yeah, I’m fine.

Maia pauses

MAIA

You're obviously not fine; I can read you like a book,

Maia goes to sit down next to McKenna

MAIA

 You can talk to me

MCKENNA

My parents have been struggling a lot recently, financially. At this rate they don’t think they can afford to send me to Yale, let alone any state school.

MAIA

Oh, I’m so sorry, I had o idea.

MCKENNA

It’s not your fault, I was such a jerk to you in middle school and I shouldn’t have left you, just because I wanted to social climb. And even when I got a second chance to be your friend again from this whole thing, I was still a jerk. I’m so sorry.

MAIA

It’s alright, it’s not like I did much to save the friendship either. Listen, I don’t need the money from all of this, you were right earlier, I’m just doing it for some recognition. I want you to have my cut in all this.

MCKENNA

are you kidding, Maia, no way--

MAIA

No, for real, I want you to have it, from now on you have my cut.

MCKENNA

I don’t know what to say.

Lou enters, but kind of stops herself. She still catches the attention of the two girls.

LOU

Oh. Crap...um was this like a moment I interrupted or--

Mckenna

(slightly annoyed)

What? What is it

Lou

  We doing this or what?

MAIA

 Yes. I’m in.

l’ll figure out how to get the CC password.

Scene 7: (sunday-syd’s house)

INT.CAR-DAY Editor: Ceci

MCKENNA

 Is everyone ready?

LOU

 Yeah whatever.

MCKENNA

Guys I’m serious we have to focus, we can’t afford to make any mistakes.

JO

Let's just get this over with

Jo makes final touches on CC keycard, hands it over to Maia, Maia puts it in pocket, they all leave the car and head over to Dr. T, who is standing outside of his office. Mckenna leads while Lou and Maia sneak behind.

MCKENNA

Dr. T! Oh my gosh how have you been!

Maia and Lou run behind him

MCKENNA

(starts fake crying)

Listen I’ve been so stressed, I don’t think College is for me…

Pan back to Lou, sneakily unplugging surveillance camera power. Pan to Maia, working on the computer, getting frustrated trying to read the smudged password letters on her finger.

DR. T

 What was that?

MCKENNA

(continues to fake cry, even harder, trying to distract Dr. T)

WHY DOES NO ONE LISTEN TO ME?!

Pan to Jo from afar, texting for everyone to hurry up. Back to Maia, finishes her job, starts leaving as the fake key card leaves a mark on the desk. Pan to Maia grabbing Lou to leave, Lou forgets to plug back in the camera cord, they signal at Mckenna that the job is complete.

MCKENNA

(Noticing the signal)

You know what Dr. T, on second thought, I’ll just have daddy buy a building. Thanks for the help! Good luck with the fam!

Runs off as Dr. T looks confused but shakes it off

Maia, Mckenna, and Lou meet up with Jo as she pulls the car around and they all get in

EVERYONE FIGHTING OUTSIDE SCHOOL,

LOU

You guys we’re totally and completely screwed

JO

(getting defensive and panic-y)

It wasn’t me, Lou, it was probably you! I wouldn’t be surprised if you forgot to plug back in the camera cord!

(Lou freezes, trying to remember…)

Oh my god don’t tell me you did.

Lou

Surprise surprise, little Miss ‘I'm so above-it all’ can’t handle the fact that her key-card was probably

trash

MAIA

What are you guys freaking out I actually got into a decent school,

LOU

Are you kidding me right now? At least we had social lives;I barely even knew you existed before this. Now no D1 school will want me!

Maia

At least I have a singular functioning brain cell!

And no one even knows what sport you play Lou! I had a shot at MIT!

JO

Guys stop! We can’t turn on each other like this! We have to calm down!

McKenna speechless, in shock

Enter MR.NEWTON

MR. NEWTON

We’re ready for you girls.

CUT TO:

Scene 1

REPEAT FOOTAGE FROM SCENE 1. Pick up with just McKenna and dean.

MR. NEWTON

You know you need to do the right thing. You and the girls are facing serious accusations which are going to gravely affect your futures, as well as anyone else potentially involved.

(Mckenna silent)

Listen, we saw the unplugged camera surveillance cord and the paint on Dr. T’s desk, no one else has admitted to it, just tell me who did it and we can all put this situation behind us.

MCKENNA

I did it,

(Pauses, as if contemplating)

I did it all. The other girls had nothing to do with it.

MR. NEWTON

(Takes a deep breath)

Look, the school has to notify the colleges you’ve applied to that you’ve breached our honor code...But we are aware of your current situation and we feel bad…However, after this you are not getting into college...like definitely not

MCKENNA

Is there a point to this, Mitch?

Mr.Newton

First of all, don’t call me that. Secondly, I want you to write me a letter to convince the board and myself why the school should allow you to walk at graduation.

Cut to Mckenna walking out of office  in slow motion--sound is cut out of shot-- girls trying to get her attention, ignoring them.

Scene 11: (friday ceci’s) Editor- SAMARA

INT.MCKENNA’S BEDROOM-NIGHT

Mckenna begins typing letter

MCKENNA

I’ve done some messed up things, I know that. I did this whole thing for a better chance at college, when really I was too consumed in my ambition to realize that this would only end up in me not going.I regret hurting people and feeling the need to break the honor code for my personal financial gain, but ultimately my biggest regret is dragging in three amazing girls into this.

CUT TO:

EXT.BEACH-NIGHT

All girls dancing at the beach, hanging out having fun.

VOICEOVER:

MCKENNA

I’ve finally met three girls who actually make me feel heard and understood. My previous popularity- concerned-self would have never allowed me to talk to these girls if it weren’t for any of this. I know they’re mad at me, and I don’t blame them. But if by doing this I get to protect them, then by all means it was all me.

Back to:

INT.MCKENNA’S BEDROOM-NIGHT

McKenna’s typing letter on her computer, face lit up breaks the fourth wall stares at the camera

MCKENNA

So honestly, I do deserve to be expelled. But if there’s any chance that I can finish out my senior year with my newfound best friends, then that’s a chance I’ll take.
